The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) was established in 1967 and is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. WIPO is the worldwide forum for intellectual property (IP) dedicated to provide a balanced, effective and accessible global IP system that rewards creativity, encourages innovation and adds to economic development while protecting the public interest.
WIPO governs more than two dozen international treaties, including the Paris Convention, the Patent Cooperation Treaty, the Madrid Protocol for trademarks and the Hague system for industrial designs.
Currently, WIPO has 183 member states. Israel signed the treaty and became a member in 1970.
